On a Lounge table, acting as a showcase for magazines about the urban developments in Zurich West, an iMac and iBook as internet workstations have been installed. This section showed how a certain life-style that was originally attributed to artists (free, flexible, creative) promises new «home experiences». This was sited by a videosampler about the rave and party theme in 90ties advertisments. Today loft is not just an artist's studio or a club land in an abandoned factory hall but has been used in also most all the development projects realized in Switzerland in the late 90s. Dwellings with one room are extolled as exclusive lofts in ads, internet images and sales material. At the same time, culture is being commercialized. A website created for the project represent the discourse on Creative Industries that are the hope of European cultural policy. Politicians are promising new jobs, location advantages and upgraded urban problems zones from it. See: www.cultural-economy.org/creative |
