Partizipation

In the last compartement architectural material models, posters and objects from «SAR» (Stichting Architecture) which have been working on participarory building concepts n the last 30 years, as well as a town planning game, and photographs of Herbert Bayer's Coop Theatre are stored on simple plywood tables. This sampler on different technologies to involve people in the planning process have been brought together by the pro qm group ( Jesko Fezer, Katja Reichard, Axel John Wieder).

Concepts like empowerment, civic commitment or action research, procedures like Round Tables, Open Space, future workshops or mediation are used in a whole variety of social settings today. They support the formal democratic decision-making processes, but also compete and conflict with them. On the walls posters from two Zurich area campaigns: «Unternehmen DemOKratie» and «Erlaubt ist was nicht stört…» present new public realtion concepts, that in the first example relate voluntary work linguistically with an „enterprise democracy „ and in the second campaign the puplic opinion is adressed with already internalized rules of good public behaviour. Both examples show that in controll society new forms of governance are already to be found in the visual culture.

Behind the „productionline „ a light installation refers to the wish of trangsgressing the field of labour into an ongoing leasure time. But fun and excess as subversion against social normality and convention are proving themselves effective for generating highly charged demand and intensive client bonding in the global market. Glamour and party are promises that after all that excessive over-work for others and on yourself you are due a particular reward: the weekend, constantly available to be called up at short notice
