Public Forum "New Economy"

Under the headword “the New Economy”, the economy, as restructured in the nineties, enters a new phase of acceleration and mobilisation, now also in Europe. The commercialisation of the Internet is providing a new trigger to motivate a whole generation into start-ups: after the big rave in the party scene it is cool now “to be an entrepreneur”. IT jobs are valorised through advertising campaigns and media reports, and “entrepreneurial thinking and acting” is deliberately made attractive. In an alliance with the globalised capital market, which can free a huge potential of flexible capital, a dynamic is evolving - reminiscent of previous boom times such as early industrialisation or the introduction of production lines - which also has massive cultural and social impacts. A more differentiated discussion of the interests and principles represented by the New Economy, and all the related hopes and desires, hardly exists at the moment.

Therefore, the e-distrust.net forum is intended to link together various critical debates regarding the current economic developments and their social and cultural effects. The central aim is to enable a direct exchange of personal observations, reports, reflections and analyses between authors, theorists and cultural workers, as well as the strengthening of a cultural and critical perspective.
